Donna de Varona, double gold-medal Olympic swimming champion and lifelong advocate for equality in women’s sports, spoke about the need to protect women’s sports category from trans athletes like Lia Thomas.
Riley Gaines, former University of Kentucky swimmer who swam against Thomas and is also speaking out against transwomen (biological males) in women’s sports has “a lot of us veterans behind her,” Varona said. “But where is middle America? Wake up, mothers and fathers, and start speaking out.”
